Cloisters and Back ( not continued from previous post, well kinda, sorta, just didnt happen directly after)

24 Miles. thats What Maps.google.com says. 24 miles. K and I took a much needed bike ride up to the cloisters, well near the cloisters. As I said in the previous post last week was a hard week for me and something like this was just what the doctor ordered.
It was hot but not humid, the breeze was nice. Our back packs were packed with our frozen water bottles, blanket and turkey samitch. We’ve done this ride before but only to the 79th street basin. This time we will go to the cloisters, dammit.

We took the WTC path train and began out trip up the west side bike path with a pretty breezy head wind. The Path was not as crowed as last time and the tourists were at a minimum. We rode non-stop to the basin this time and had a nice nap. I kind of wish we didn’t stop because my mind began to run marathons, lying there on the blanket, for two reasons one; this was the same week as the death of my grandmother and second; the night before I was a drunken asshole to K (I’m still wondering why she’s still around me).
We woke up drank our water and off we went to our next goal, the GWB (not Bush). I was awestruck since I’ve never seen it from the ground on the NY side only in NJ. There is a cute little red lighthouse there. I was second guessing the rest of the trip till K hugged and kissed me. We got back on our bikes and were off till, Blam, a hill at, what seamed to be a 45 degree angle. Whoa, this isn’t going to work for me. We got off our bikes and walked it up and that was painful.
At the top of the hill it was smooth sailing. When we got to the entrance to the cloisters we notices there was the Harlem River drive in between us and the entrance, damn. So we decided to head back near the basin and eat our samitch. We rode back, showered and made a bet on who can guess the distance, the loser buys dinner, I won, I said 20 miles, the mileage; 24 miles.
We both won. Next time we are going IN to the cloisters.
Oh I forgot to mention. K made the this trail mix that was pure genius. First she couldnt find mixed salted nuts so she settled for a bag of peanuts, almonds, cashews, and m&m’s. Whoa so damned good. LOVE LOVE LOVE, swoon.
